Question by enrique_lopez_3: How much does hosting a World of Warcraft private server affect system performance?
I’m guessing it would slow the computer down considerably, depending popularity of the server, but I’m not sure. Can anyone who has hosted or is hosting a World of Warcraft private server tell me how much of a performance hit you have to take?

I host my own WoW server and I haven’t seen a big impact on my computer’s performance. Since towards the beginning, you won’t have too much people until you advertise etc…

Question by Nicholas Liew: How do I create a World of Warcraft private server?
I’m planning to make my own World of Warcraft private server.
When I mean Private Server, I mean a server like Curse.com
Where people from around my state or country and connect and play together. Where they can donate for limited items and everything else a typical Private Server would have.

Is there a tutorial to do this? If there isn’t, could you explain to me the basic on how to do so?
Is payment required?

I know they can donate and such, but if they donate for limited time items and such… You would need to make sure it goes toward the server upkeep and not for personal use. Watch out, if Blizzard Entertainment finds out and you are making money while doing it… You could be warned by Blizzard to shut down. I have seen it many times, and which Expansion you want to use? Youtube has great tutorials, and I wouldn’t charge to have them use the private server, thats just like playing on the retail server offered by Blizzard.

Depending on what your private server is about… I would definitely suggest starting out a normal rate server and if you get requests… Open another one for instant-80s (Lich King) or instant-85s (Cataclysm), its the best way to get your word out about your private server. But 1 rule of thumb, NEVER EVER EVER SPAM ON RETAIL SERVERS OR OFFICIAL FORUMS! LOL Good luck, email me if you need help and I will help you.

A very good World of Warcraft private server. It’s very active with full PvP, instant lvl 80, and much more. Just head over to www.wowlegacy.net and register for an account. Then either download that game client or just go into your Worldofwarcraft/data/enUS/realmlist. Open realmlist with notepad or wordpad (MAKE SURE TO MAKE A BACKUP OF THE REALMLIST FILE!!). Delete everything in realmlist and replace it with “set realmlist 66.207.165.9″ (no quotes). Next time you start World of Warcraft log in as the character you made when you registered on the site.

They have a ton of different realms, but the one you want is the Blizzlike realm. It’s EXACTLY like a blizzard server.
They have a few bugs here and there, but if you find any, just report them, and they fix them fast.

no it’s not correlated to your real WoW profile, just make some name up, don’t use your real Wow name

Making private servers is illegal and will get you booted and possibly more, like banned for life… I don’t suggest doing it if you really like the game.
