With nine days to go till I’m 50 ( and for the 9 in 09 game ) – here’s nine past, present and future things about me for 2009:

1 I am the oldest and for 35 years have been the smallest of three brothers

2 I run a Level 71 Mage in World of Warcraft and want to get him to Level 80 by the end of the year.

3 I can’t say the word "Patron"

4 I owned a Triumph Bonneville for three years. I doubt I’ll ride a motorcycle again

5 I’ve done The Great North Run and have a place to do it again this year if I can get myself fit enough.

6 I usually know but don’t always admit it. Even to myself.

7 For nine years I lived on a boat.

8 I once built my own PC – and then bought a Mac…

9 I still want to visit the Chelsea Hotel , The Festival in The Desert and The Blue House – but probably on seperate days…

* Also the title of one of my favourite live albums.

Question by Platinum Knight: Can someone please give me a full explanation about Macro’s on World Of Warcraft?
i checked on all the wow wiki’s and they werent any help? what are they for, how do i use them, are they helpful? please answer.

Answer by Branden
macros are for doing multiple things at once or spamming a certain thing for instance on my rouge (when i still played) i had a macro that would try to target a stealthed target and i would spam it until it found something an about 80% of the time i caught the enemy rogue first. or you can use them to cast multiple spells a once or target and spell at once (good for healers) it just takes some trail and error and you will eentally figure em out just keep trying

Which one is better? I know PW is F2P and WoW is P2P but I really don’t care about it. I want to know which one is better when it comes to gameplay, graphics, events, guilds, dungeon, pvp, pve, mass wars and etc..

Question by Joey: Is there a site that lists world of warcraft quests with info on what level is suggested to complete them?
Like a wiki or something. I am a level 21 orc hunter and am getting sick of accepting the harder/too easy quests. Is there a quest wiki for horde?

world of warcraft wiki and Ingredients in World of Warcraft for cooking?

world of warcraft wiki:

Question by Tori: Ingredients in World of Warcraft for cooking?
I am looking for white spider meat. WoW wiki told me that I can loot it from lvl 35-60 beasts, but that doesn’t seem to be right. I need to raise my cooking experience, but I can’t do that unless I find the ingredient, and that white spider meat is the only thing I can cook. Could you please tell me where i can find it exactly?

Well, I’ve been tagged (a couple of times I might add) so I guess its about time I went ahead and did this :) Heres stuff about me you probably won’t find in textbooks (though if you find anything about me in a textbook, please inform :P ).

1) My nickname NidalM comes from my middle name ‘Nidal’. It’s what friends call me (and white people who think Abdullah is too long a name!). It also makes me sound like a very famous tennis player (which confuses some people to no end!) ;P

2) I have a very serious identity crisis. Born in Pakistan, raised in Saudi Arabia, educated in the United States. Born to a father raised in Pakistan and a mother raised in Tanzania (both are very desi though!).

3) That said, I had the best childhood ever, with friends that I’ll love for a lifetime. Now we’re all scattered around the globe, but we reunite from time to time… feels like its back to 1996 :)

4) My life changed when I bought my first SLR in January of 2008. Having a way to express myself has helped me understand me. Also helps me vent when I’m angry or upset. I’ve become more social, confident, and resulted in me becoming a travelholic.

5) I have an irrational fear of flying. I was on a NorthWestern flight from Amsterdam to Detroit when our engine failed over the north Atlantic. We were diverted to Montreal and landed safely, but those were some of the scariest moments ever. Now, when flying (which I do a LOT, several flights a month sometimes), I’ll always look out at the planes engines from the window…

6) I love swimming. Been doing it for several years now, even part-timed as a lifeguard in college.

7) I have a weird thing about music. I’ll associate various songs to places and times in the past, and every time I hear them, it takes me back in time. Usually it has NOTHING to do with what the song actually is saying. For example, hearing Zara Zara takes me back to Ramadan 2003 and bittersweet memories of undergrad friends, and us discovering our independence.

8) You wouldn’t recognize me if you saw me 2 years ago. Remember that episode of South Park where Cartman plays World of Warcraft all day and becomes fat. Well that was me. I was a WoW addict and weighed 200 pounds (thats 95 kilos). In case you’re wondering, no I no longer weigh 95 kilos.

9) I don’t watch TV. Not even for the news. In fact I can’t remember the last time I turned one on. My source of entertainment is solely the internet.

10) Theres a brand of chocolates named after me. I know it’s lame but I’m sooo proud of this one fact ;P

Cool Toys pics of the day: Open Cobalt

Open Cobalt:

Today, in Second Life, at the regular Friday afternoon MICA events, I
saw a presentation of the most amazing breakthrough in virtual worlds
I’ve seen in … well, in forever.

The presentation was given by Julian Lombardi on the subject of Open Cobalt.

Julian Lombardi:
julianlombardi.com/

The Open Cobalt project is funded by the NSF, if I heard right. The
presentation was in voice and there was no transcript planned, and I
arrived late following another meeting, so my notes are sketchy. My
apologies if I get any details wrong.

Briefly, my understanding of the idea behind Cobalt is this. Current
virtual worlds depend on both assets and identities and access being
managed through a central collection of servers managed by a third
party (usually) or your own servers (in the case of OpenSim, OSGrid,
ReactionGrid, ScienceSIm and similar environments). Some, like World
of Warcraft, place assets and portions of identity on your local hard
drive, but still manage most of identity and interactions via third
party online spaces. In all of these cases, the virtual worlds require
a realtime constant internet connection to function.

Duh, you say. Well, Open Cobalt intends to turn this model of virtual
worlds on its head. The basic model for the Open Cobalt vision of
virtual worlds is peer-to-peer (p2p) This makes it possible to run a
virtual world not only on your own servers, but also in environments
withOUT a stable network connection. It also makes possible entirely
different modes of collaboration, communication and asset management.

Slides from the MICA presentation will be posted here:
mica-vw.org/wiki/index.php/MICA_Seminars

I am sure there will be more info as this moves out of pre-Alpha, but
I wasn’t going to wait to tell you about it. This is too important of
an idea. Meanwhile, Cobalt is also open source. Did I forget to
mention that?
